Michael J. Hartwig, Ph.D., is our Resident Scholar who works with professors, academic institutions and pastoral formation programs to develop effective and innovative travel programs that have academic integrity.
Michael received the Ph.D. in religious ethics from Southern Methodist University.
In addition to teaching, presenting & publishing in religious studies and applied ethics, Hartwig has devoted his professional life to developing substantive study abroad learning opportunities for adult students. He draws on his five years of living in Europe (Italy, Spain & Germany), his work in faculty and curriculum development, his background in philosophy, religion, pastoral formation, and liberal studies, and his experience working with adult learners.
Michael teaches part-time at several Boston-area colleges/universities in the area of applied ethics, world religions and the phenomenology of religion. He served on the New England/Maritimes Regional board of the American Academy of Religion from 1999 to 2010 and served as President for 2009-2010. He is an active publisher and presenter at academic conferences. He is also an accomplished oil painter (visit his virtual gallery at: www.michaeljhartwig.com) and is writing a historical novel about Rome in the 1500s.

Michael J. Gorman, Ph.D., is a Consulting Scholar. A noted New Testament specialist and an avid traveler, he works with professors, academic institutions, and continuing education programs to develop effective and innovative travel programs that have academic integrity and, when appropriate, a vital spiritual component. He also works with churches and pastors to develop relevant programs for them.
Mike is Dean of the Ecumenical Institute of Theology and Professor of Sacred Scripture at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore, Maryland. The author of nine books, including Apostle of the Crucified Lord: A Theological Introduction to Paul and His Letters, Reading Paul, and the forthcoming Reading Revelation Responsibly, Mike has led several illume programs to Greece and Turkey (“The Cities of Paul and John”), and he has also led or participated in journeys to Europe, Canada, Israel/Palestine, and Africa.
An active member of the Society of Biblical Literature, Mike has special interests in theological interpretation and missional hermeneutics, and he is on the steering committee of SBL’s Theological Interpretation of Christian Scripture Group. He has been a visiting professor at Duke Divinity School, Wesley Seminary, Mars Hill Graduate School, and Grand Séminaire Notre Dame de l’Espérance in Cameroon. He is also an active United Methodist layperson.
